New**DEA NATIONAL TAKE-BACK INITIATIVE New**Pharmacist DEA Manual 2010 Electronic Prescribing - Although DEA final rules concerning the electronic prescribing of controlled substances became effective on June 1, 2010, the DEA FAQ link explains why all current systems do not satisfy these new DEA requirements: Within the preface of said rules, the DEA explained that industry will require much time to develop systems that will be compliant. Additionally, the Board has identified three sections of Idaho Code and nine administrative rules that require updating in order for the electronic prescribing of controlled substances to be allowed within Idaho. This can only be accomplished with approval of the 2011 Idaho Legislature. Also of note: electronically signed, controlled substance prescriptions that are faxed to a pharmacy are not considered electronically prescribed and are not legalized by these changes.
